Getting to know Gordon Kelly, UDig Technical Account Manager…
13 Jan
Our second employee spotlight is a conversation with Gordon Kelly, UDig Technical Account Manager. As we mentioned in our first employee spotlight, at UDig we have a list of guiding principles that govern how we operate – philosophies that demonstrate how we feel candidates and clients should be treated. These are all just words on paper unless the people who work here embrace the way we do business. Gordon is one of those people.
Where are you from? Richmond
What is your education background? I have a B.A. in Government from the University of Virginia and I am currently a candidate for a MBA at VCU in 2013.
Where did you work before UDig? After graduating from UVA, I worked in downtown Richmond as a Financial Specialist for Wachovia - selling loans, investments, mortgages and financial planning.
How did you wind up at UDig and how long have you worked here? I have been at UDig for 6 years. I met our COO, Andy Frank, through a networking contact while I was working at Wachovia. We got along well and I was looking for a new opportunity where I could use my growing account management skills.
What is your favorite part of your job at UDig? My approach to business stems from the fact that I love solving client problems. My favorite part of this job is the feeling of satisfaction after filling a tough job req for a client. Many managers, especially in IT, do not enjoy the hiring process and have a tough time locating a high caliber of talent in a specific IT field. Finding that talent for a manager makes their job easier and gives me a strong sense of accomplishment. In that same regard, we are improving the quality of life of the IT professionals we place by making their current situation better in some way (more money, better work/life balance, upward career progression, etc.) or we are finding a job for someone who is out of work.
What is the most challenging part of your day? Like many people, the most challenging part of my day is time management. My “to-do” list seems to always be growing. There can be many unexpected bumps in the road which impact your day-to-day schedule. My goal in 2012 is to focus more on finishing one thing at a time and ensuring my clients’ needs are met as quickly and efficiently as possible.
Four things we may not know about you…
I am an avid golfer (constant work in progress).
I love to play basketball (although I am getting slower every year).
I’m a die-hard UVA and Skins fan.
I’m 6’9”.
