Holiday Job Search

While the holiday season is the time to spend with your family and friends, drink hot cocoa and bake cookies, it’s also a great time to search for your next job.

Although it may not seem like it, searching for a new job during the holidays might be the perfect time to land your next role. Most people tend to slow down during the last couple weeks of the year but if you stay focused on a finding a new job, you will have a huge advantage over the other job seekers who have taken the rest of the year off.

There is also a misconception that companies don’t hire during this time and therefore people don’t think that jobs are available. However, many companies do an end-of-the-year push and are looking to get new hires on board before the first of January. If you continue your job search through December instead of taking time off, you are more likely to land that new role you’ve been looking for.

If you’re already working full-time but are looking for something different, the holidays are a good time to do your search because you will have more free days available. If you are already taking holiday time off it will be easier for you to schedule interviews that won’t interfere with your already busy workweek.

And what better time to network than hitting up the plethora of holiday parties that will be in full force. Mingling with old and new contacts (with a glass of eggnog in hand) is a great way to see what’s out there, and to connect with more and more people in the business. You may just find your next job by attending that Ugly Christmas Sweater Party that you were really trying to avoid.

The holiday season will allow you some more free time to really focus on a successful job search. While you’re home you can be focused on finding a new job without any other added stress. It’s difficult to be in the office and give your undivided attention to your job hunt, but if you are in the comforts of your own home and can do things on your own time, your experience will be a positive one.

So what are you waiting for? Finish wrapping up those last minute Christmas gifts and start searching for your next job. ‘Tis the Season.
