Digging In is a regular series of blog posts profiling UDig employees.  We hope this series helps you to get to know our team and understand why we dig what we do! Today we are talking to Lauren Cox, Business Development Representative.

UDig: Tell us a little bit about your background and your role at UDig.

LC: Prior to UDig, I worked in recruiting and account management. I sourced my own clients, owned their requisitions and sought qualified candidates to fill them. My role here as a Business Development Representative is focused on identifying opportunities within a specified vertical and building our knowledge base of that industry through research and information sharing. I help connect the dots between the business challenges organizations face and work with our technical experts to develop an IT strategy to resolve them.

UDig: Why did you choose UDig?

LC: I loved the appeal of working for a smaller company and I was eager to transition my focus to be more consulting-oriented than staffing-oriented. I was one of the first Business Development Representatives hired onto the team, and that provided me the opportunity to create a path for the role and have input into our business development processes as we moved forward and continued to grow. I also knew that with that growth came upward mobility and the potential to further my career.

UDig: What’s your favorite thing about your role?

LC: It’s rewarding to be involved in all stages of our client partnerships. I’m involved in making an initial connection, growing our relationships and building trust with our clients over time, developing an understanding of their needs, and finally delivering a strategic solution to them. Of course, it’s always great to see the impact of our work following delivery. I like that my role isn’t confined to one area of the sales cycle.

UDig: What did you want to be when you grew up?

LC: An astronaut.

UDig: What is your favorite online procrastination tool?

LC: I love to cook so I often find myself on Instagram watching Tasty videos.

UDig: What is the most played song in your library?

LC: I’m a country fan, so I’ve been listening to a lot of Billy Currington lately.

UDig: You’ve been told you are not allowed to work tomorrow, how do you spend your day?

LC: I’d start by taking my mini golden doodle, Zoey, on a walk around the fan. Then I’d probably hang out with my sisters. If the weather was nice, I might take a quick trip to the Outer Banks for the day with friends. Do I have to work tomorrow?
