Digging in with Kelly Hoover, Employee Success Manager

Digging In is a regular series of blog posts profiling UDig employees.  We hope this series helps you get to know our team and understand why we dig what we do! Today, we are sitting down with Kelly Hoover, Employee Success Manager.

UDig: Tell us a little bit about your background and your role at UDig.

KH: I joined UDig right after college, making it my first full-time job. With a history degree under my belt, I wasn’t entirely sure about my career path. Initially, I started as an operations assistant, where I had the opportunity to work across various departments and lend a hand wherever needed. After about four to five years, I transitioned into a more HR-focused role, which is where I am now. My day-to-day responsibilities are quite varied, with no fixed schedule. I primarily focus on employee engagement, ensuring a positive experience for everyone, organizing team events, managing benefits like 401k and healthcare, and assisting with training and gathering feedback.

UDig: Why UDig? What made us the right decision for you?

KH: A friend from college who worked at UDig reached out to me about a position here. I had a meeting with Susan Frank, and I was immediately drawn to the company, it was quite small at the time, but it felt like a good fit for my personality. Despite walking in somewhat blind, joining UDig turned out to be the best decision.

UDig: What does “accelerate your success” mean to you?

KH: For me, “accelerate your success” is about seizing opportunities for growth and taking the initiative to pursue them. I started in an administrative role and wanted to explore other avenues. UDig provided the autonomy and support I needed to transition into a role that aligns better with my interests. Now, I aim to leverage my experience to support others in their professional journeys.

UDig: You have been with UDig for 9 years, what is it about UDig that keeps you here?

KH: What keeps me at UDig is the incredible people I work with. The camaraderie among colleagues and the supportive work environment make it a comfortable and enjoyable place to be. I am comfortable voicing my opinions and ideas and feel that I am trusted to get the job done. I find fulfillment in helping others through my role, whether it’s making their work lives easier or contributing to their overall well-being.

UDig: What is your favorite procrastination tool?

KH: When I need a break, I love watching Bravo TV. I’m a huge fan of pretty much all of the “Real Housewives” series.

UDig: What did you want to be when you grew up?

KH: My career aspirations were ever evolving, but one consistent idea was becoming an elementary school teacher. I was drawn to the profession because of the positive experiences I had with my own teachers growing up. I feel that in a way, what I do now, related to working with and helping people, is similar to the reasons I wanted to get into education.

UDig: What’s the most played song in your library?

KH: The entirety of Taylor Swift’s discography – right now, the “1989 (Taylor’s Version)” vault tracks are on loop.

UDig: What trivia category would you be best at?

KH: Definitely pop culture trivia. I find the latest trends and entertainment news fascinating.

UDig: How would you spend your day if we told you to take the day off?

KH: If given a free day to myself, I’d love to spend it near the water, either at the beach or the river. I’d bring along a captivating mystery book, some delicious snacks, and end the day with a delicious lobster dinner. It would be the perfect way to relax and recharge…while also getting a nice tan.
